Mission Trips

HONDURAS 2011

A team of seven missionaries from Trinity UMC and Sam Jones Memorial UMC traveled to Trujillo, Honduras, in July to carry out the Word of Christ beyond the boundaries of our own congregation and continue to develop Christian relationships with the people of a far less fortunate community.

Four Trinity members - Michael "Moose" Mosteller, Michael and Cindy Schwartz and Patrick Hogan - took part in the mission trip and played key roles in the work that was carried out in Trujillo. While in Honduras, the team completed several improvement projects for La Jardin de Angelitos, a children's home that was overseen for the last several months by Sam Jones UMC member Margie Holmes. The missionaries also worked and worshipped with congregations in the communities of Trujillo and Guadeloupe, held two vacation bible schools for local children and supplied the congregations with materials to aid their members in education and worship.

HONDURAS 2010

Trinity UMC joined forces with Sam Jones Memorial UMC last summer to serve the people of Trujullo, Honduras, in the name of Jesus Christ.  Thirteen mission team members from Cartersville--including Cindy Schwartz and Paster Mike Morgan--traveled to Honduras July 17-25.  The purpose of the trip was to work with an independent church in the beautiful but impoverished coastal town of Trujillo.  The focus was teaching specific skill sets to young people in Trujillo to help break the economic cycle they live in.  The summer of 2009 the pastor in Truillo taught some 300 youth every Wednesday night.  In 2010 the pastor taught bicycle repair and basic computer skills.  He wanted to expand the offerings to include skills such as welding, cooking, sewing, and woodworking.  Our mission team also taught a self-worth course to teenage females in the area.

The construction aspect of the trip depended on the skill level of our mission team members.  There were numerous projects to work on ranging from indoor painting to pouring concrete.  One combined project was to teach basic welding.  It was a hands-on course to make and then install windows in the new church building in a remote village.  Before the mission team departed for Honduras, we offered a basic plumbing and electrical work course for team members who wanted to learn those skills.  We then taught those skills to the youth in Trujillo.

Ghana 2009
