Northwest Georgia Council, BSA

There are 158 Packs and Troops in the NW GA Council serving about 4,000 boys. This is only about 2-3% of the eligible boys in this council. The Council is divided into three Districts:

  • Sequoyah covers Bartow and Gordon Counties
  • Conasauga covers Whitfield and Murray counties
  • Coosa District covers Floyd, Polk and Chattooga counties

Our District, Sequoyah has about 20 Packs and 20 Troops.

Cub Scout Pack 15, Sequoyah District, Northwest Georgia Council, BSA

We are the biggest of the Council.

The Pack serves approximately 150 boys ages 6 to 10, assisted by 29 trained Adult Volunteers. Three of the adults are currently undergoing Wood Badge, the highest level adult leader training available. Three adults have completed their Wood Badge and also contribute time to the District.

Fun:

  • Throughout the year we visited Space Camp in Huntsville, The USS Yorktown in Charleston, the Bartow County History Museum, TELLUS, and a number of local national and state parks.
  • Our Cubs and their Leaders were a big part of the summertime "Camp Twilight" District Activity at Grace Baptist Church.
  • A number of our Cubs and their parents were able to spend a week at Camp Sidney Drew enjoying the outdoors and earning belt loops and badges.
  • Later a large contingent of our Cubs and Leaders took part in the BSA Birthday Bash at Camp Sidney Dew.

Service:

  • We helped with the July Fourth Celebration at Dellinger Park providing essential cleanup after the event.
  • Some of our Cubs also helped with Relay for Life as a service project.
  • We assisted with the Trinity Bikes, Bibles and Helmets project and also Corps of Engineers Lake Allatoona Cleanup.
  • We also took lead and staffed a large service project at Camp Sidney Dew. Our Den 8 hosted a Bicycle Rodeo in conjunction with Kennesaw State that was open to all kids and was particularly well attended.
  • Most recently we helped the Bartow Christmas Coalition sort and distribute food to Bartow residents in need.

April 25 Webelos Scouts  ‘crossovered' or were graduated.  Most of those Cubs will likely join Tom Farmer's Troop 15 at Trinity United Methodist Church.

Pack budget exceeds $30,000. Funding comes mostly from selling of Popcorn each year around early November.

Boy Scout Troop 15, Sequoyah District, Northwest Georgia Council, BSA

Troop 15 is home to about 46 boys and 7 Adult volunteers. Many more adults serve as part of the Troop Committee.

A total of 8 Boy Scouts have achieved the coveted Eagle rank since the troop began. One Boy Scout was awarded Eagle Rank in 2010. Three more have had their Eagle projects approved and are nearly complete. We expect 7 more Scouts to earn Eagle this year.

Scoutmaster Tom Farmer offers the following stats:

Miles Hiked - 7456

Nights Camped - 3537   (That's the equivalent of about 66 nights per person per year.)

Service Hours - 1794

Troop 15 went to Camp Thunder in Albany for summer camp in 2010 and expect to visit Philmont in 2011.

Troop budget exceeds $800 per Scout. Funding comes mostly from the sale of Pine Straw bales in the Spring each year.
